Alex is another promising Kent batsman who will look to really establish himself in the county’s top-order in 2012.
The left-hander, another graduate of Kent’s highly-regarded Academy, looks to score his runs quickly and is a powerful yet attractive stroke-maker on his day. His first class debut came during the 2008 campaign, against the touring New Zealand side. However, it was in 2010 when Alex started to fully showcase his talents as he became a regular in all forms of the game. This culminated in him scoring his only century to date – an exhilarating, unbeaten 105, which included 18 boundaries, against Yorkshire in the final round of championship matches.
Last season the former Leeds Metropolitan University student found first-team action harder to come by but a fluent 96 against Surrey further underlined his blossoming talents. So far the statistics suggest his strengths lie in the shorter form of the game. A healthy batting average of 27.46 from 18 one-day innings, with a strike-rate of nearly a run a ball, proves his effectiveness. Alex continues to work hard on his bowling as he aims to cement his place in the Kent first-team.
