Daniel is widely regarded as one of the hottest batting prodigies in the country. The aggressive opener has already excelled at England under 19 level and ended last season as Kent’s number two, in the absence of the injured Rob Key, making three consecutive LV= County Championship appearances. Now, with the departure of Joe Denly, he will be looking to establish himself in the Kent top order.
Since bursting onto the scene with young England, Daniel has shown signs of his Caribbean roots with his game based on powerful, yet attractive stroke-making. He made countless half-centuries for the national side and took that form into his first class debut when he made a fluent 80, off 103 balls, against Loughborough MCCU.
Towards the end of the 2011 season, he was a regular in the first-team. His t20 debut came against the touring Indian side and he made five CB40 appearances. In those matches he was given license to thrill and didn’t disappoint. He got the Spitfires off to numerous flying starts as they enjoyed a strong end to the tournament. His top score of 42, on competition debut against Worcestershire Royals, came off just 30 balls and included five boundaries and two sixes to further highlight his destructive nature.
With first class experience under his belt, the former Millfield School pupil will be looking to improve on his average of 21 in 2012 and further enhance his growing reputation.
